Travel to Blackfriars Playhouse with IU Kokomo

February 5, 2007

KOKOMO, Ind.—The Indiana University Kokomo Shakespeare Club invites you to join its members March 8–11 at Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, Va.

“The world's only re-creation of William Shakespeare's original indoor theatre, Blackfriars is one of the United States’ premiere performance sites for Shakespeare’s works,” said Assistant Professor of English Terri Bourus, Ph.D. Trip participants will see the First Quarto version of Hamlet and the comedies The Devil is an Ass, and The Brats of Clarence.

The tour group will travel to Virginia via Amtrak train, leaving Indianapolis late on Thursday evening and returning early Monday morning.

The $280 trip fee includes bus transportation from IU Kokomo to the Indianapolis train station and return; a round-trip train ticket; accommodations (double occupancy) at the Stonewall Jackson Inn; daily breakfasts; and the theatre package, including the three plays, a tour of the playhouse, and a lecture. Registration deadline is February 9.

Bourus has conducted extensive research on early printed versions of Shakespeare’s writings. She has made presentations of her findings to international audiences of scholars during the past three American Shakespeare Center Conferences held at Blackfriars.
