Airline CEO Karnik to speak at IU Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind.—Subodh Karnik, recently appointed president and chief executive officer of ATA Airlines, will speak on “Leadership in Business Turn-Around Management” Wednesday, February 21, at Indiana University Kokomo. The School of Business is sponsoring Karnik’s 5:30 p.m. presentation in Kresge Auditorium as part of its Leadership Lecture Series. The public is welcome to attend; admission is free.
Karnik’s topic reflects his involvement in guiding Indianapolis-based ATA through arduous chapter 11 reorganization. Karnik joined ATA in May 2005 as Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. In January 2006, he was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). On January 1, 2007, he replaced former President and CEO John Denison.
Karnik had 15 years of airline experience that includes handling marketing, international sales, revenue management, and other leadership roles at major carriers Delta, Continental and Northwest airlines. Prior to entering the airline industry, Karnik held internal and external consultant roles with Ernst and Young and Unilever India. A native of Mumbai, India, he is a graduate of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science and the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.
