IU Kokomo men help stage Shakespeare at Tipton
February 26, 2007
KOKOMO, Ind.—Tipton Community Theatre’s upcoming production of
Much Ado About Nothing features the work of IU Kokomo students Ed Faunce and Joshua Sommers and adjunct faculty member Greg Hamilton. The Shakespeare comedy will be presented at the Tipton High School Auditorium on Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m.
Faunce is a humanities major, Sommers is studying communication arts, and Hamilton is an adjunct lecturer in the humanities. All three reside in Kokomo.
Faunce and his co-director Brett Stoker selected an old west setting for their Much Ado, a lively showdown of the sexes. “This is one way to show that Shakespeare can be relevant in any time or place,” said Faunce. Opposing parties face each other with six shooters and sharp wits, rather than swords, and the comedy ends “with multiple marriages and no deaths,” he added.
Sommers portrays Don Pedro; and Hamilton plays the dual roles of Friar Francis and a musician.
