Rohr heads IU Kokomo Admission/Financial Aid

KOKOMO, Ind.—Indiana University Kokomo has appointed Jolane Rohr as Director of Admissions and Scholarships and Financial Aid. Having worked as Director of Admissions at Manchester College since 1997, Rohr has 15 years of experience in admissions and financial aid.

“Jolane’s familiarity with our service area as well as the student profile is particularly advantageous,” said Jack Tharp, vice chancellor for Student Services. “More importantly, she brings a wealth of knowledge and business practice application from the private college model that will help us better define our recruitment strategies in an increasingly competitive environment.”

Rohr said she and her Manchester staff accomplished several goals, including increased marketing in the Fort Wayne area, more visibility for scholarship programs, and development of written training materials for admission operations.

Overseeing a database conversion for Manchester’s admission office four years ago made Rohr “a big believer” in using information databases as tools for targeted recruitment. “What you can get out of a database can improve communication, help you track contacts, and coordinate your efforts with faculty outreach.”

Mining databases of IU Kokomo prospects could “add to what’s already going very well” in the admissions and financial aid offices, Rohr said. Their five professional staff and three support staff members “have a lot of capacity—they’re very good people,” she added.

Rohr praised the marketable strengths of IU Kokomo. “Its wide array of curricular offerings is quite remarkable. Academic advisors seem very involved and accessible. Those are important messages for us to get across.”

She also said she was “impressed by how engaged students seem to be on this campus.”

Rohr holds bachelor’s degrees in both sociology and history from Indiana University Bloomington.
