January 6, 2006
KOKOMO, Ind.—Former IU basketball great Kyle Hornsby will join fellow alumni in cheering on the Hoosiers Saturday, January 21, at Buffalo Wild Wings in Kokomo. The restaurant will be the site for the annual IU v. Purdue TV Basketball Party, hosted by the IU Kokomo Alumni Association and Howard-Tipton Counties Chapter of the IU Alumni Association.
Tip-off for the game is at 2:30 p.m. Individuals wishing to sit at tables reserved for IU alumni should RSVP by January 13 to alumni@iuk.edu or 455-9411.
Playing for the Hoosiers from 1998–2003, Hornsby ended his college hoops career among the Big Ten leaders in three-point field goals per game (1.69) and eighth in percentage (.380). His senior campaign was highlighted by a career-high 19 points against Northwestern, a game where he also tied a career-high for three-point field goals with five. Hornsby, a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, is fourth on IU's career three-pointers list with 178.
A native of Shreveport, La., Hornsby is also remembered as a “nice guy” with a single-minded drive to succeed. After road losses, Hornsby would exit the team bus at Bloomington and enter Assembly Hall gym to practice defensive moves well past midnight.
