See Gore film on global warming January 31
January 19, 2007
KOKOMO, Ind.—Indiana University Kokomo’s Office of Student Activities will sponsor a free showing of the documentary film
An Inconvenient Truth Wednesday, January 31, at 7 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium. The film runs 100 minutes and is rated PG.
Lecturer in Geology Lea Gilbertson and Senior Lecturer in Chemistry Marcia Gillette, Ph.D., will moderate a brief audience discussion of the movie’s viewpoints after the showing.
Released in 2006, >An Inconvenient Truth captures a lecture in which former U.S. Vice President Al Gore argues that human activity—particularly the burning of fossil fuels—is changing the earth’s climate for the worse. Several critics have praised Gore’s talk as a clear and compelling presentation on the issue, illustrated with dramatic slides and even an animated cartoon. “Gore is a likable, confident, humorous speaker,” wrote reviewer James Berardinelli of www.reelviews.net.
The film showing is offered as part of the campus’s American Democracy Project (ADP). A national initiative involving 200 campuses, including IU Kokomo, ADP sponsors academic and student life programs that explore civic activities and social issues central to the life of a democracy.
Contact the Office of Student Activities, (765) 455-9203, for details. Persons without campus parking passes should follow the signs for visitor parking for this movie.
