McGovern elected to Midwest Sociological Society board

January 26, 2007

KOKOMO, Ind.—Ligaya Lindio McGovern, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology at Indiana University Kokomo, has been elected At-Large Director of the Midwest Sociological Society (MSS) for 2007–2009. McGovern becomes a member of its governing Executive Board.

The MSS encompasses nine states—Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Kansas, South Dakota, and North Dakota. Nearly 1,200 scholars, students, and practicing sociologists in universities, government and business belong to the organization.

As At-Large Director, McGovern will represent and promote the organization beyond the midwest region. Her election recognizes her scholarly accomplishments and her two decades of active membership and service in the organization.

In the past, McGovern had been unanimously nominated to serve on the MSS’s Social Action Committee and the Committee for Academic Freedom and Responsibility. She annually organizes paper sessions and presents research papers at society meetings, and has served as a presenter.
