American Shakespeare Center on Tour performs at IU Kokomo

January 31, 2008

In late February, the IU Kokomo Arts and Sciences department will be hosting a high-school-day performance of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew by actors from the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Virginia. The IU Kokomo visit, made possible by an Indiana University New Frontiers Grant awarded to former IU Kokomo Professor Terri Bourus, is part of a week-long residency at IUPUI. It includes performances for the general public and high-school students as well as workshops for area students and actors.

One of the country’s most acclaimed acting troupes, American Shakespeare Center on Tour, uses original Shakespearean production techniques, such as leaving the house lights on during performances, to demonstrate authentic Elizabethan style theater.

The IU Kokomo performance is one of two special, free performances for high-school students in Indianapolis and Kokomo. The ASC troupe will give three public performances at the Christian Theological Seminary and a special scene performance, Shakespeare in the Courtroom, co-sponsored by the IU School of Law-Indianapolis at Inlow Hall on the IUPUI campus.
