Four courses bring businesses up to speed with QuickBooks® accounting

KOKOMO, Ind.—IU Kokomo’s Division of Continuing Studies will offer beginning and advanced courses in QuickBooks®, a versatile financial management software for small business needs. QuickBooks® for Business I, an accelerated one-day course, covers QuickBooks® basic accounting features, as well as small business accounting principles. Creating a mock company, students will practice entering sales, setting up accounts receivable, recording purchases, paying bills and managing inventory. To enroll, students must have prior business experience along with basic computer knowledge. The class meets Tuesday, August 19, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. QuickBooks® for Business II builds on QuickBooks® for Business I, focusing on time-tracking activities and payroll and sales taxes. Special attention is given to analyzing a company’s financial performance using the reports in QuickBooks®. Students must have completed QuickBooks® for Business I or have experience with a PC-based business accounting package. The class meets Thursday, August 21, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. In QuickBooks® Level I, students will learn to manage expenses, analyze cash flow, compile balance sheet information and build a budget. This class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 5–14, 5:30–7:30 p.m. QuickBooks® Level II teaches analyzing financial performance using QuickBooks® reports. Students will learn to compute payroll and sales taxes and use estimating and time-tracking program features. Level II students must first complete QuickBooks® Level I or have equivalent experience with a PC-based accounting package. The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 19–28, 5:30–7:30 p.m. The fee for each of the four QuickBooks® courses is $189. Access® Basics Access® contains tremendous depth and structure to create databases. Learn Access® methodologies as you investigate relational database design and creation. Course topics include primary keys, relational database structure, formats, linking databases, SQL and Object Linking and Embedding. Book required.
