KOKOMO, Ind.—The Indiana University Kokomo Staff Council presented its 2006–2007 student scholarships to Mary Janna Mallay of Logansport and Erik Pattison of Kokomo.

Mallay, a social and behavioral science major, received a $1,000 grant as a full-time student (i.e., carrying 12 or more credit hours of courses per semester). She would like to pursue social work after graduation.

Pattison anticipates earning his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from IU Kokomo in 2007. He will then apply to medical school. The staff council gave Pattison its $500 scholarship for part-time students.

Representing the clerical, technical, and maintenance employees of IU Kokomo the Staff Council organizes volunteer fundraising projects, benefiting scholarships and improvements to the campus grounds. Annually, council members sponsor a November arts and crafts show that typically draws more than 1,000 visitors to the campus in one day. In 2005–2006, the Staff Council also cosponsored some events honoring the campus’ 60th Anniversary and contributed support for Hurricane Katrina victims.
