KOKOMO, Ind.—IU Kokomo’s Division of Continuing Studies can fill your summer days with classes that teach fun new hobbies or needed skills for personal and professional development. July classes are as follows: Human Resources Development This course looks at identifying career paths and opportunities for developing individuals within an organization. Mondays, July 7–28, 6–8 p.m. Fee: $99 Animations with Flash® Learn to build Web sites using Macromedia’s Flash®. The class covers basic animation, action scripting and the language of Flash®. Basic knowledge of Windows® operating system is required. Book required. Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 8–17, 7:45–9:45 p.m. Fee: $189 Learn to Play Golf Four 60-minute golf lessons stress the fundamentals of golf, with emphasis on short game, putting, chipping and pitching. Using drills, students will develop the feel of their golf swing. Students will not need golf clubs but must pay driving range fees. Thursdays, July 10–31, 5:30–6:30 p.m. Fee: $99 Network+ Certification Prepare for the CompTIA Network+ exam with this course covering networking technologies, layers, TCP/IP, networking practices, and installation, support and troubleshooting for networks. Book required. Tuesdays and Fridays, July 15–August 15, 5:30–9:30 p.m. Fee: $999 Web Graphics Discover how to build a professional Web site with three of today's best programs. Photoshop® Elements will allow you to create great looking graphics, and Flash® MX will provide the animation. Put it all together with Dreamweaver® MX assisting you in the design and layout stages. This course will take you in style from step one to the final Web site. Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 15–31, 5:30–7:30 p.m. Fee: $279 Black-and-White Photography This short course provides a basic understanding of how to process black-and-white film, and to print a photos and proof sheets. Students will learn to set up a darkroom, size photos and select chemicals and photo paper. Saturdays, July 19 and 26, 9 a.m.–noon. Fee: $89 Microsoft Office® Basics Microsoft® has many programs that are user friendly and features that can help with projects such as presentations, letters and spreadsheets. Study basics of each of the Office® programs (Word®, Excel® and PowerPoint®). Mondays and Wednesdays, July 21–30, 5:30–7:30 p.m. Fee: $99 Yoga I This form of exercise and stretching improves flexibility, balance and strength. Taught in detail, the poses work together to increase body awareness and tone all muscles. Students are asked to bring a towel and exercise mat to each class, and to dress comfortably to accommodate ease of body movement. Students should not consume food 1–2 hours prior to class. Monday, July 21–August 25, 6–7 p.m. Fee: $72 Word® Basics Learning Microsoft Word®—part of the Microsoft Office® suite—is easy with this slow-paced, hands-on course. Prepare yourself to create letters, envelopes and other documents, without having to learn technical details. Book required. Tuesday, July 22, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Fee: $99 Excel® Basics Learn Microsoft Excel® by creating spreadsheets and charts perfect to use in PowerPoint® presentations or other Microsoft Office® products. Book required. Thursday, July 24, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Fee: $99
Excel® Intermediate Take yourself to the next level of Microsoft Excel®. Work with multiple worksheets and workbooks, customize Excel’s toolbars and menus and explore advanced charting and formatting features. Book required. Tuesday, July 29, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Fee: $99
