Tri-Central grad Kaleb Hollingsworth wins Kelley Scholarship

June 2, 2003

KOKOMO, Ind.—Kaleb Hollingsworth of Sharpsville is the 2003 recipient of the Kelley Scholarship, which pays four years’ full tuition and fees at Indiana University Kokomo. A recent Tri-Central High School graduate, Kaleb is the son of Kevin and Karol Floyd. He plans to major in accounting through IU Kokomo’s School of Business in the fall. “I found it very interesting that the School of Business was ranked so high nationally,” Hollingsworth said.

Receiving the Kelley Scholarship was “awfully exciting,” he added. “It definitely made my decision to go to IU Kokomo easier.” Other factors in IU Kokomo’s favor were the small size of the campus and its closeness to home, he said.

While attending Tri-Central, Hollingsworth was active in Students Against Destructive Decisions (formerly Students Again Drunk Driving) and served as president of the National Honor Society. Playing guard all four years for Tri-Central’s basketball team, he also participated in track and football.

Named for the family of Tipton native E.W. Kelley, the Kelley Scholarship is open to Tipton County graduates of either Tri-Central or Tipton high schools. It has been awarded annually since 1994. A five-person committee selects the scholarship winner based on academic performance; the committee consists of the high schools’ principals, a representative of the Tipton Community Foundation and two IU Kokomo staff members.

The founder and managing general partner of Kelley and Partners, Ltd., E.W. Kelley is chairman of Consolidated Products, Inc. He and his wife, Wilma, both graduated from IU Bloomington. IU Kokomo’s Kelley Student Center and Kelley House are named in recognition of the Kelleys’ philanthropy and support of the university. IU’s Kelley School of Business, located on both the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses, is also named in their honor.
