Chancellor appointed to Accreditation Review Council
June 23, 2005 | |||||
KOKOMO, Ind.—Indiana University Kokomo Chancellor Ruth Person has been appointed to the Accreditation Review Council of The Higher Learning Commission for the North Central Association of College and Schools (NCA). Her four-year appointment starts in September.
The NCA is one of six regional institutional-accrediting associations in the United States. Through its commissions, it accredits, and thereby grants membership to, educational institutions in 19 states. NCA Assistant Director for Process Integrity Barbara Taylor stated that Person was nominated on the strength of her “commitment and services to the work of the Commission” as an NCA consultant-evaluator. Person's work for the Accreditation Review Council will be divided between its Readers Panels and the Review Committee. A Readers Panel consists of two peer reviewers who examine all materials related to an evaluation visit to a college and university by a peer review team. Panel members then make recommendations to the Commission regarding the team's findings for or against the school's accreditation.
The six-member Review Committee holds hearings with representatives of reviewed institutions and their review teams in order to make decisions about appropriate Commission action. The Review Committee has the power to make accrediting decisions that the Commission Board of Trustees will validate.
