Boy Scout council honors Sigler
June 23, 2005 | |||||
KOKOMO, Ind.—The Boy Scouts of America's Sagamore Council honored Ellen Sigler, Ed.D., with its Learning for Life Outstanding Service to Exploring Award on May 16. Sigler is an assistant professor of educational psychology at Indiana University Kokomo.
The award recognized Sigler's service as an advisor for the Learning for Life Explorer Program sponsored by the IU Kokomo's Division of Education. The coed program allows area high school students to learn about teaching careers. “Ellen's enthusiasm and dedication to the program have helped to make it very successful,” said Claudia Van Noy, Learning for Life Executive for Sagamore Council. “This year, 10 high school students from Howard and Miami counties attended monthly meetings of the program. They enjoyed numerous hands-on teaching/education experiences and had a lot of fun as well. Several youth members this year returned for their second or third experience in the Exploring program.” (Director of IU Kokomo's Curriculum Lab Charlotte Miller founded the on-campus Exploring program and continues as co-advisor to Sigler.) Sigler received the honor at the council's annual meeting and volunteer recognition dinner. More than 150 adult participants and their families attended from the 16 north central Indiana counties served by the council. The Sagamore Council is a United Way agency.
