Hendricks will help advise search for IU president
June 29, 2006
KOKOMO, Ind.—Susan Hendricks, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor with the IU Kokomo School of Nursing, will serve on a faculty advisory group helping recommend candidates for Indiana University’s next president.
In January, IU President Adam W. Herbert announced that he would leave the university when the two years remaining on his five-year contract expire. Herbert recommended that the search for his replacement get under way this year because presidential searches can be time-consuming and do not always bear fruit on the first attempt. Herbert has said that if a new president is identified before his tenure ends, he may step down as president and serve the university in another capacity.
The Trustees of Indiana University will work on the search this summer, determining criteria to select a new president and selecting a search consultant. A 12-member search committee named by the trustees will formally begin work in September. Sue H. Talbot , IU Kokomo’s trustee liaison will chair the search panel.
The 12-member faculty advisory group to which Hendricks has been appointed will work with the search committee. Chosen to ensure a broad cross-section of representation from the various campuses and schools that make up Indiana University, the advisory group will help the search committee formulate selection criteria, review dossiers and recommend candidates for interviews.
Stephen L. Ferguson, president of the IU Board of Trustees, declined to set a completion date for the process, saying the search will continue for as long it takes to find fully qualified nominees.
