Summer enrollment rises at IU Kokomo
June 7, 2007
KOKOMO, Ind.—Indiana University Kokomo experienced a 4.2 percent increase in Summer I enrollments between 2006 and 2007. In May, 902 students are enrolled during IU Kokomo’s summer I session, as compared to 866 students for Summer I session in 2006.
The number of course credit hours being taken in Summer I sessions increased by 5.1 percent this year—3,790 credit hours in 2007 versus 3,607 in 2006.
More than 500 of the students enrolled for Summer I classes at IU Kokomo are part-time undergraduates. Vice Chancellor for External Relations Paul Nowak noted that those enrolled include students accelerating their college careers by earning credits during the traditional summer school break.
“Others are teachers and various working professionals taking advantage of the short, six-week summer courses to work toward degrees that will enhance their career advancement,” Nowak said. “Students tell us that IU Kokomo’s location and flexible scheduling make this possible for them.”
“As an institution we are pleased with how many of our undergraduates are attending summer classes and working on completing their degrees,” said Vice Chancellor for Student Services Jack Tharp, Ed.D. “This is different from the trend years ago, when a significant portion of our summer student population consisted of visiting students from other campuses.”
Enrollment is now open for Summer II session at IU Kokomo. Classes run June 25–August 8.
