KOKOMO, Ind.—American foreign affairs. The impact of dinosaurs on modern science. English literature viewed through many lenses, including Zen Buddhism. The IU Kokomo Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (M.L.S.) brings these diverse topics together in its fall 2004 course offerings. The School of Arts and Sciences (SOAS) is accepting applications to the program now through April 15. An application form can be obtained by calling (765) 455-9381 or by visiting www.iuk.edu/mls. M.L.S. students complete 30 hours of course work, including nine hours of interdisciplinary seminars and elective courses in the humanities; social and behavioral sciences; and natural, information, and mathematical sciences. All M.L.S. students for fall 2004 are required to take the course “Dinosaurs: An Introduction to Integrative Science.” The class covers how dinosaurs evolved and lived, as well as the history of dinosaur research and the scientific, mathematical, and theoretical techniques used to understand these creatures. Two elective M.L.S. courses will also be offered in fall—“Studies in Literature” and “American Diplomatic History.” “Studies in Literature” considers the history and motivational conditions of the study of English. The course will include a unit on Zen Buddhism and literary practice. “American Diplomatic History” looks at U.S. foreign relations from the Spanish-American War to the Gulf War, incorporating significant developments during the twentieth century. IU Kokomo also offers master’s degree programs in education, business and nursing. Additional information can be found at www.iuk.edu/programs.
