  Logansport, Kokomo, Russiaville runners dominate Old Ben 5K

KOKOMO, Ind.—The fastest woman in the March 20 Old Ben 5K Run/Walk, Christan Bahler, 21, of Kokomo, completed the Highland Park course in 19:48 minutes. Scott Colford, 33, of Logansport was top overall male runner with a 16:19-minute race. Bahler placed 17th among the total 171 participants in the 19th annual event, which was sponsored by the IU Kokomo Alumni Association, The Kokomo Tribune and Club Kokomo Roadrunners.

Second and third place honors overall for men and women runners went to four Kokomo residents: Jimmy Jackson, 18 (17:17); Gary Jewell, 42, (17:28); Annina Gruber, 16, (20:18); and Kelly Wright, 26 (20:46).

The race drew runners and walkers from more than a dozen north central Indiana communities, as well as two out-of-state competitors. Forest Kenworthy of Green Bay, Wisc., finished third among males ages 60–69 with a time of 25:40. Patrick McDonald of North Plainfield, N.J., was fourth place finisher in the same category, running the course in 30:21.

Top finishers by age groups included the following:

Female Runners: 18 and under, Anna Hurlock, Russiaville (20.52); 19–29, Erica Swart, Noblesville (24:38); 30–39, Angie Banush, Kokomo (24:13); 40–49, Cheryl Marner, Kokomo (23:52); 50–59, Robin Tetrault, Kokomo (26:56); 60 and over, Trudy Pierce, Indianapolis (41:33).

Male Runners: 18 and under, Michael Marley, Russiaville (17:57); 19–29, Matt Yarosz, Kokomo (17:37); 30–39, Scott Goskins, Russiaville, (18:07); 40–49, Dana Neer, Russiaville, (18:53); 50–59, Chuck Masters, Kokomo, (20:08); 60–69, Dale Sullivan, Logansport, (23:47); 70 and over, Milt Brown, Kokomo, (32:34).

Female Walkers: 20–29, Jamie Myers, Carmel (43:58); 30–39, Shelly Lawrence, Kokomo (46:50); 40–49, Carol Aders, Russiaville (32:56); 50–59, Sue Smock, Anderson (33:30); 60 and over, Julia Donahue, Kokomo (42:32).

Male Walkers: 19 and under, Christopher Ellison, Kokomo (45:30); 30–39, Tim Revils, Kokomo (43:14); 40–49, Keith McAndrews, Logansport (32:40); 50–59, Rick Spencer, Lucerne (30:56); 60 and over, Jerome Lambert, Russiaville (30:52).

Refreshment sponsors included Kroger Northwest Plaza, Panera Bread, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Kokomo, Young’s Water Conditioning and Blondie’s Cookies.
