  Undergraduate research grants awarded

KOKOMO, Ind.—Six Indiana University Kokomo faculty members have received grants to mentor student research projects in the IU Undergraduate Research Summer Institute program for 2005. Campus faculty members Dianne Roden, Kathy Holcomb, and Tim Sehr reviewed and recommended approval for the following URSI projects:

“Qualitative Analysis of Living with Heart Failure”—Research by Kevin Bogard of Kokomo, associate degree in nursing student.
Mentor: Associate Professor of Nursing Roberta Schweitzer, Ph.D.

“Factors That Influence Sustainability of Family Court Agencies in Ireland”—Research by Colin Kenny of Peru, studying in University Division.
Mentor: Assistant Professor of Public Affairs Karl Besel, Ph.D.

“Photo-Electrochemical Studies on Surface Modified Electrodes with Immobilized Redox Centers”—Research by Stephenie Michelle Jones of Kokomo, chemistry major.
Mentor: Professor of Chemistry Kasem K. Kasem, Ph.D.

“A Journey to a Place Called Self (publication developed from hike of Appalachian Trail)”—Research by John Proffitt of Wabash, psychology major.
Mentor: Lecturer in English Karla Farmer Stouse.

“All That Glitters Might Be Glass (glass sculpture)”—Research by Darren Smith of Kokomo, humanities major.
Mentor: Lecturer in Music Cindy Ison.

“Lysozyme Activity in Snapping Turtle Eggs During Embryonic Development”—Research by Ashley Gillem of Kokomo, biological and physical sciences major.
Mentor: Associate Professor of Biology Michael Finkler, Ph.D.
