KOKOMO, Ind.—IU Kokomo University Theatre will present scenes from James Joyce's Dubliners Friday–Sunday, April 1–3, in Havens Auditorium. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m.; the Sunday matinee starts at 2 p.m. Associate Professor of Communication Arts E. Colin Black adapted the script from four of Joyce's short stories about inhabitants of Dublin, Ireland. Black has also directed the play. Lecturer in Music Cindy Ison is musical director and keyboard accompanist. The play's four acts are • “Araby,” the story of a young man's first love veiled in the enchantments of a far eastern bazaar • “Eveline,” the tale of a Dublin shop girl who dreams of escaping her harsh life through the love of a sailor and new adventures in far-off Buenos Aires • “The Boarding House,” in which Mrs. Mooney, a butcher's daughter, carves out matrimony for her daughter Polly • “The Dead,” perhaps Joyce's most personal story, whose hero discovers the bittersweet interplay between the past and the present, the living and the dead The ensemble cast of students, faculty, and community members includes J. C. Anderson, Donald Broadstone, Monique Alyann Ethier, Ed Faunce, Erik Homkes, Matthia Jansen, Raj Kalapatapu, Coleen Kebrdle, Colburn Lambert, Carri Luster, and Scott D. Blackwell as the play's “literary host” James Joyce. Admission is $5. To reserve seating, call (765) 455-9248.
