Old Ben 5K reset on April 14

March 30, 2007

KOKOMO, Ind.—The 22nd annual running of the Old Ben 5K Run/Walk in Kokomo’s Highland Park has a new date—Saturday, April 14. Originally scheduled on March 24, the race was postponed when the City of Kokomo closed Highland Park due to high water.

The event includes an 8:30 a.m. 1-mile Fun Run, simultaneous 5K run and walk races starting at 9 a.m., and awards and prize drawings around 10 a.m. Previous Old Ben races have drawn close to 200 competitors per year and raised thousands of dollars for the Indiana University Kokomo Alumni Association's (IUKAA’s) student scholarship endowment.

“We will be contacting all those who already registered for the race to let them know about the new date,” said Cathy Hightower, director of Alumni Relations. “Let’s cross our fingers for a DRY April 14.”

Additional registrations are welcome. Call (765) 455-9411 or e-mail alumni@iuk.edu. Walk-up registration is available from 7:30 a.m.–8:15 a.m. on April 14 at Highland Park’s Rodgers Pavilion.

Hightower extended her thanks to volunteers “for all the time and effort in getting ready for the original race date” and encouraged volunteers who can help on April 14 to contact the alumni office.

St. Vincent Health/St. Joseph Hospital is the presenting sponsor for the 2007 Old Ben 5K. Additional sponsors include Club Kokomo Roadrunners, The Kokomo Tribune, and the Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department.
