IU Kokomo Radiography Program is Awarded Eight-year Re-accreditation by JRCERT
March 18, 2008
Kokomo, Indiana—Indiana University Kokomo radiography program is awarded eight-year re-accreditation by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). In a letter to Chancellor Ruth J. Person, JRCERT expressed appreciation for the opportunity to evaluate the associate degree radiography program sponsored by IU Kokomo. The JRCERT is the only agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for the accreditation of educational programs in radiography, radiation therapy, magnetic resonance, and medical dosimetry. Specialized accreditation awarded by the JRCERT offers institutions significant value by providing peer evaluation and by assuring the public of quality professional education in the Radiologic Sciences.
Director of Radiologic Sciences at IU Kokomo, John Hughey, states, “Our program's success has been achieved through the efforts of all those involved with the program: our students, clinical education partners, and IU Kokomo administration. The Radiologic Science program now offers both associate and baccalaureate options. We are hoping to expand both programs to include the new clinical partners in our service area.”
An Interim report will be required with a projected submission date is in the Fourth Quarter of 2011. Given that the accreditation award is maintained, the next site visit is tentatively scheduled for the Fourth Quarter of 2015.
Hughey adds, “Our program has been existence for three graduating classes. Each of those three graduating classes has scored in the top 10% of all program cohorts on their American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) national certification examination. We have had two students scored a scaled score of 99, which is the highest possible score on the scaled examination administrated by the nationally recognized ARRT.”
Indiana University Kokomo serves an 11 county area in north central Indiana. The campus offers more than 40 academic programs including four master’s degrees.
