Indiana University Kokomo Cougars win intramural basketball championship

KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo intramural men’s basketball team are now Division II champions, defeating M and L Lawn Care with a 72-46 victory during the March 1 championship. This is the sixth championship for the Cougars in the Kokomo Parks and Recreation men’s winter basketball league.

After taking an early 15-3 lead, the Cougars never trailed. Among the eight student players was J.C. Barnett, who led the league in scoring this season with 26 points a game, many of which came from three-pointers. Other highlights were more three-pointers made by Tom Henning and the offense teamwork between Austin Davis and Andrew Amos.

As Division II champs, the team completed the season undefeated and the Cougars can move up to Division I competition for next year’s season. Team members include Amos, Davis, Barnett, Henning, Ryan Boucher, Kevin Nystrom, Vince Lorenz, and Lemuel Wright, and were coached by community members Don Smith and Mike Karickhoff.

The intramural basketball team is sponsored by the Student Athletic Board (SAB). The SAB is a group that works to promote recreational and intramural athletic events on and off campus for students.

Indiana University Kokomo serves a seven county, primary service area in north central Indiana, bringing quality education to area residents. The campus offers more than 40 academic programs including four graduate degrees.
