IU Kokomo students to perform “Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?”
**This has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m.
KOKOMO, Ind. – Come prepared to be entertained and take a step back in time during the musical production of “Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?” performed by students, faculty, and staff at Indiana University Kokomo. Two performances are scheduled at Haven’s Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, and Saturday, April 11.
The coming of age story involves the 1950s Catholic education of eight Chicago children, following them from the start of elementary school through the senior prom and beyond. The production is being directed by Joann Kaiser, visiting lecturer in communication arts, and musical director is Cindy Ison, senior lecturer in music.
The main focus is on late-blooming Eddie Ryan and Becky Bakowski, who become best friends, fall in love, and then go their separate ways when Becky decides to join a convent. Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? is based on a novel by John R. Powers, with music and lyrics by James Quinn and Alaric Jans.
Cast members include: Jon Gluff, Kokomo; Lindsay Weed, Kokomo; Justin Enyart, Marion; Caitlyn Rudolph, Kokomo; Chris Johnson, Greentown; Melissa Wetekamp, Kokomo; Jon Newlon, Russiaville; Autumn Reef, Michigantown; David W. Parker, Plymouth; Kyle Mullett, Peru; and Nadene Keene, Indianapolis.
Admission is $7 for students and senior citizens, and $10 for all others. Tickets can be purchased at the box office one hour prior to the show.
Indiana University Kokomo serves a seven county, primary service area in north central Indiana, bringing quality education to area residents. The campus offers more than 40 academic programs including four graduate degrees.
