  Cloum earns 2003 Honors Scholarship

May 22, 2003

KOKOMO, Ind.—The Indiana University Kokomo Honors Program has presented its Kofas Honors Scholarship for 2003 to Heather Mechelle Cloum of Kokomo. A 2002 graduate of Tri-Central High School, Cloum has completed her freshman year in University Division, IU Kokomo’s program of general education courses for students who have not yet selected a major.

Cloum received the $500 scholarship, based on her academic performance, contributions to the IU Kokomo Honors Program and her involvement in the campus and community.

In a letter recommending Cloum for the scholarship, Career Placement Director Julie Diesman wrote that Cloum “works hard to balance her time” between school and a full-time job at Cone Palace. “She takes the responsibility of both very seriously,” Diesman stated. Cloum also works part time as a clerk in the campus’ Office of Financial Aid and is an officer in the Humanities Club.

Diesman taught Cloum in a Basic Career Planning class, in which students assessed their own career strengths through exercises in decision making and goal setting. “Heather has put a lot of thought and effort into class,” Diesman stated. “I think Heather is an excellent representation of the caliber of students produced at IU Kokomo.”
