IU Kokomo honors best and brightest

KOKOMO, Ind.—Indiana University Kokomo and the Purdue University School of Technology at Kokomo recognized some of their brightest and best May 12, during the annual Honors Day Ceremony in Havens Auditorium. Faculty members from the various academic schools and divisions presented Outstanding Student awards to the following: Indiana University Kokomo School of Arts and Sciences: Biological and Physical Sciences, Margaret Spaulding Sharpsville; Information Systems, Jamesyn Quinn, Kokomo; Chemical Rubber Company Chemistry Award, Ty Woodhouse, Kokomo; Mathematics, Rebeca Eshelman, Logansport; Communication Arts, Christi Hobaugh, Michigantown; English, Laura Garrett, Frankfort, and Josh Matthews, Greentown; Social and Behavioral Sciences, Jamie Myers, Kokomo; Sociology, Angela Almon-Pearson, Logansport; Psychology, Amy Myer, Kokomo. School of Public and Environmental Affairs: Criminal Justice, William Carpenter, Kokomo. School of Business: Indiana C.P.A. Award, Marcus D. Bowman, Rossville. Division of Education: Jennie Henderson, Kokomo. Division of Continuing Studies: General Studies, Scott Foreman, Marion. School of Nursing: Associate of Science, Dennis Hobson, Russiaville; Bachelor of Science, Michele Meredith, Wabash; Registered Nurse/Bachelor of Science, Judith Golitko, Bunker Hill. Purdue University School of Technology at Kokomo Computer Graphics Technology, Daniel Derflinger, Sharpsville; Computer Technology, Jared Ellars, Amboy; Electrical Engineering Technology, Jeffrey Troyer, Kokomo; Mechanical Engineering Technology, Scott Jivery, Kokomo; Organizational Leadership and Supervision, Seth Stafford, Kokomo. Tonya Goodier, program director for Vega 2, presented the Delphi Delco Electronics Systems Awards for Electrical Engineering Technology students. William Olivarez, Kokomo, received the award for Associate of Science degree candidate; and Brad Musselman, Kokomo, received the award for Bachelor of Science degree candidate. IU Kokomo Vice Chancellor for Student Services Jack Tharp, Ed.D., and Purdue University School of Technology at Kokomo Interim Director Thomas Capozzoli, Ed.D., presented students on their respective university’s Academic Honors List. Robert Strikwerda, Ph.D., recognized graduates in the Honors Program. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Stuart Green, M.F.A., introduced scholarship recipients. Two-term president of the IU Kokomo Student government Association Michael Sandy of Kokomo received the Outstanding Student Leader Award.
Three faculty members received Amicus Awards, recognizing them as the most popular instructors of the year, selected by student vote. Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Allen Anderson, Ph.D., received the Amicus as Favorite IU Kokomo Full-Time Faculty; instructor in English and philosophy Scott Blackwell, M.A., was named Favorite IU Kokomo Adjunct Faculty. Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Technology Martin Pike, D.S.E., earned the title of Favorite Purdue Faculty.
