Nov. 26, 1911 Born in Oakland City, Ind.
1932 Earns B.A. in chemistry from Indiana University Bloomington.
1932 John and George Beauchamp found Kokomo Junior College, forerunner of IU Kokomo. Enrollment dwindles by World War II.
1933 Earns M.A. in chemistry from Indiana University Bloomington
1933 Vice President and Professor of Chemistry for Galloway Academy and Junior College, Searcy, Ariz.
1934–37 Professor of Chemistry at Pykeville (Ky.) College
1937–1943Career at Central Normal College, Danville, Ind., as Professor of Science (37-40), Dean of Men (38–39), Academic Dean and Acting President (39–40), and President (40–43).
1939 Virgil Hunt marries Elizabeth Patterson of Cannelton, Ind. The marriage lasts 63 years, until Mrs. Hunt’s death in 2001.
1943Preflight training instructor for U.S. Air Force program at Butler University; physics instructor for U.S. Army at IU Bloomington.
1943–1945 Research physicist for U.S. Navy laboratory at The Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.
1945 Indiana University adopts Kokomo Junior College as IU extension center, appointing Virgil Hunt as first executive secretary (later director). Initial enrollment 188 students and location, 508 W. Taylor St. Hunt also teaches chemistry.
1946 IU purchases Seiberling Mansion to accommodate growing student population, up to 384. Hunt invites WWII veterans from New York to enroll at Kokomo campus, after other schools reject them because they are Jewish. Graduate education classes offered to local teachers.
1952 IU purchases Mark Brown (Elliott) House, west of Seiberling, for faculty offices and library. Seiberling carriage house become art studio.
1956 Virgil Hunt leaves IU Kokomo to become dean of IU Indianapolis. IU Kokomo has more than 700 students.
1966–1976 First Registrar of the Indiana University Medical Center.
1976 Retires from Indiana University.
1998 IU Kokomo establishes the Virgil Hunt Service Award for faculty and staff.
2001 Virgil Hunt Fellowship in graduate education established.
2002 Virgil and Elizabeth Hunt Scholars Program created to assist Kokomo students majoring in science or science education.
Feb. 5, 2002 New science building at IU Kokomo named Virgil and Elizabeth Hunt Hall.
Oct. 6, 2002 Community Foundation of Howard County presents David Foster Award for Lifetime Achievement to families of Virgil and Bill Hunt, in recognition of contributions to IU Kokomo.
May 13, 2003 IU Kokomo confers Doctor of Humane Letters on Virgil Hunt.
