  IU Kokomo, Purdue honors academic achievers

KOKOMO, Ind.—Indiana University Kokomo and the Purdue University School of Technology Kokomo saluted students at the top of their academic fields Monday, May 10, during the annual Honors Day Ceremony in Havens Auditorium.

Faculty members from the various academic schools and divisions presented Outstanding Student awards to the following:

Indiana University Kokomo
Division of Allied Health Sciences: Karen Smiley, Logansport (pursuing an associate degree in dental hygiene).
School of Arts and Sciences: Biological and Physical Sciences, Courtney Healton, Greentown; Computer Information Systems, Melissa Hinze, Kokomo; Chemical Rubber Company Chemistry Award, Stephanie Jones, Kokomo (Master of Science in Education); Mathematics, Rebeca Eshelman, Logansport; Communication Arts, Kathyrn Widman, Rochester; Sociology, Tiffianey Taylor, Kokomo; Psychology, Brooke Clevenger, Kokomo; History and Political Science, Crystal Carpenter, Greentown, and Britany Sorrell, Kokomo.

Computer Graphics Technology: William Flanigan, Kokomo.
Computer Technology: Billy Wallen, Windfall.
Electrical Engineering Technology: Jessie Myers, Peru.
Mechanical Engineering Technology: Leon Lanning, Kokomo.
Organizational Leadership and Supervision, Robert Parker, Cutler.
Delphi Electronics and Safety Awards for Electrical Engineering Technology: Associate of Science, Christopher Baker, Monticello; Bachelor of Science; Joseph Richards, Kokomo.

Students from both universities who earned academic honors and scholarships in the previous year were also recognized.

Three faculty members received Amicus Awards, recognizing them as the most popular instructors of the year, as selected by student vote. Professor of History Jon Kofas, Ph.D., received the Amicus as Favorite IU Kokomo Full-Time Faculty. Catherine Barnes, who teaches Freshman Seminar courses, received the Amicus for adjunct faculty members. Barnes is also the Director of Campus Climate for IU Kokomo.

Assistant Professor of Computer Technology Jeffrey Griffin earned the Amicus as Favorite Purdue Faculty.
