High school art exhibit opens May 17

KOKOMO, Ind.—The IU Kokomo Art Gallery presents its Ninth Annual High School Exhibition May 17–June 6. The show is titled Seniors—Their Best Work.
Seniors at area public and private high schools, as well as students in the Kokomo Home School Association submitted art for this juried exhibition. Participating high schools include Kokomo Center, Northwestern, Taylor, Eastern, Peru, Marion and Kokomo Christian. Cash prizes for the best works will be awarded at a reception Friday, May 21, 5–7 p.m. at the gallery, located in Kelley Student Center. Live music will be provided by Soup Kitchen; Shamus Driver will present a performance art piece, Forced Input. All gallery exhibits and activities are free and open to the public. Alisa Fox, a professor of Visual Communications at Ivy Tech in Indianapolis, and Michael Wilcox, a Kokomo ceramic artist, will serve as exhibit jurors. “I am pleased that this year’s exhibition will include prize money for the students,” said Gallery Director Minda Douglas. “This is a great incentive for our local youth to enter the exhibition. The money for the prizes is generously donated by the Ladd Dental Group of Kokomo.” Additional funding for the exhibit comes from the Kokomo Community Arts Commission, the Tippecanoe Arts Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Indiana Arts Commission/Indiana Endowment for the Arts.
