Humanities students shine in Day of Excellence

KOKOMO, Ind.—Twenty-one students in the Indiana University Kokomo Department of Humanities presented class projects during a Student Day of Excellence held April 14 on campus. Nominated by faculty instructors, Day of Excellence participants offered 5–10 minute excerpts of individual or group presentations originally developed as assignments for spring semester courses.
Presenters and the courses they represented were Corporate Video Production Operations: Group Mark Leach of Logansport and Saul Coleman, Ed Faunce, Victoria Guge, and Heidi Updegraff, all of Kokomo (taught by Fatimah Muhammad) Drawing II: Summer Paul of Kokomo (taught by Minda Douglas) Harlem Renaissance Honors Seminar: Navi Van Wormer of Peru (taught by Nadene Keene and Robert Strikwerda) Human Communication: Victoria Guge of Kokomo; group Roseann Aeschliman and Heidi Updegraff, both of Kokomo (taught by Raul Mosley) Music Theory: Raj Kalapatapu of Logansport (taught by Cindy Ison) Painting I: Kari Dummitt of Carmel (taught by Minda Douglas) Public Speaking: Britany Sorrell of Kokomo (taught by Raul Mosley) Spanish I: Laranda Collins of Atlanta (taught by Kimberlie Colson) Spanish II: Groups Chelsea Conrad of Russiaville, Megan Mathews of Fairmount, and Nicole Peña of Tipton; Marley Griffin of Galveston and Rebecca Paul of Swaysee; Carri Luster and Fattaneh Zarabadi-Nejad, both of Kokomo (taught by Barbara Greer) Women's Studies: Ed Faunce of Kokomo; group Leah Sand of Kokomo and Adrian Hamilton of Swaysee (taught by Donna McLean) “I always enjoy attending the Humanities Day of Excellence,” said Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences Susan Sciame-Giesecke. “It is an opportunity to see outstanding student work. This year, our art students, foreign language students, creative writing students, music students, and public speaking students showcased their talents.
