40th Commencement at Indiana University Kokomo honors 525 graduates

May 5, 2009

Kokomo, Ind. – Indiana University Kokomo’s 40th Commencement will honor 525 graduates on Tuesday, May 12. The Commencement ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the east side of the IU Kokomo Library, with IU President Michael A. McRobbie presiding.

The School of Nursing will graduate the most students with 139 receiving their bachelor’s. Forty-five master’s degrees will be conferred as well.

During Commencement, the IU Kokomo Alumni Association will present the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award to Jeff Schwartz, B.S.N. ’98. Schwartz is being recognized for his service to IU Kokomo and in the U.S. Army where he worked as a nurse at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and in Iraq.

If inclement weather forces Commencement exercises inside, two separate ceremonies will take place in Havens Auditorium. The first indoor ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will include the School of Nursing, Division of Allied Health, Division of Education, and the School of Social Work. The second ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will include the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, Division of Continuing Studies, and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

Tickets are required for admission to the indoor ceremonies only. Degree candidates received admission tickets when caps and gowns were delivered in late April. For more details, visit “Countdown to Commencement” at www.iuk.edu/alumni or call (765) 455-9411.
