KOKOMO, Ind.—The IU Kokomo Student Union Board (S.U.B.) is gathering small gifts to brighten the holidays of U.S. military personnel serving in Iraq. Now through December 12, donated items can be placed in a box located outside the IU Kokomo Bookstore in the Kelley Student Center. Suggested gift items include hygiene products, magazines, snack foods, phone cards, puzzle and word game books, Christmas cards, stationery, pens, and mints. Personal letters and cards thanking the troops for their efforts and wishing them well can also be contributed, said S.U.B. member Melissa Guzman. S.U.B. choose to coordinate the project at the request of an IU Kokomo student whose brother-in-law is stationed in Iraq, Guzman said. “We felt it was important to remember the soldiers still over there without their families and friends.” Donors should avoid items that won’t ship well, such as toiletries in aerosol cans or perishable food items.
Student Activities staff will also accept donations in Kelley Student Center Room 210. For additional information, contact the Office of Student Activities at (765) 455-9203.
