Cinergy/PSI awards $10,000 for Kresge Science Initiative
November 24, 2004 | |||||
KOKOMO, Ind.—The Cinergy Foundation, the philanthropic arm of PSI Energy, Inc., has awarded Indiana University Kokomo $10,000 for the Kresge Science Initiative. Made possible through the efforts of Laura Sheets, Cinergy/PSI field customer relations manager in Kokomo, the grant will help fund a permanent endowment for maintenance and replacement of science education equipment used by the campus’ 3,100 students.
Cinergy/PSI is a major provider of residential and commercial energy in IU Kokomo’s 11-county service area and the Midwest. “Philanthropy has become an integral part of the way we do business,” said Joe Hale, president of the Cinergy Foundation. “Our companies have deep roots in the communities we serve, and we’ve established a tradition of giving back to the areas where we operate.” “On behalf of IU Kokomo, I want to thank the Cinergy Foundation for its generous support of the Kresge Science Initiative,” said acting Vice Chancellor for External Relations Jack Tharp. “By providing up-to-date laboratory and other science equipment for our students and faculty to use, IU Kokomo can more fully prepare our graduates to take on the increasingly technology-driven professions of the twenty-first century, be they in research, health care, education, or other fields. “The Cinergy Foundation’s gift significantly helps the campus move toward its goal of raising $468,000 for the equipment endowment by the end of December 2004,” Tharp said. In 2002, the Cinergy Foundation presented a three-year grant totaling $10,000 to IU Kokomo, to help cover start-up costs for its Bachelor of Arts in Health and Aging degree program. Each year, the Cinergy Foundation reinvests a portion of the pretax profits of its regulated operating companies in the communities it serves. Cinergy Corp. is the parent company of PSI Energy, Inc., and The Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co., serving 1.5 million electric customers and about 500,000 gas customers in Indiana, southwest Ohio, and northern Kentucky.
