Douglas, Steel art shows open
November 2, 2006
KOKOMO, Ind.—Indiana University Kokomo Lecturers in Fine Arts Minda Douglas and Gregory Steel will both open solo exhibitions of their works on November 3—Douglas in Kokomo and Steel in Indianapolis.
Douglas’s Life, Death and a Piece of String will be on display at Sycamore Market Place, 115 E. Sycamore St., Kokomo, through November 30. The November 3 opening reception starts at 6 p.m. and will feature live music.
Steel’s Artifacts exhibition can be seen at Galerie Penumbra, 1043 Virginia Ave., Indianapolis, through November 25. A 5–9 p.m. opening reception is planned on November 3.
Douglas’ traveling exhibition of drawings, paintings, and prints has already appeared in Plainfield and at Kokomo’s Jackson Morrow Park. Additional showings are scheduled through June 1, 2007, at venues in Carmel, Muncie, and Indianapolis.
Gregory Steel directs the Indiana University Kokomo Art Gallery, and has exhibited work internationally in film festivals, museums, and galleries. Steel “does not talk much about his work, but his work says plenty,” said Galerie Penumbra owner David Mattingly. “Steel has been called an ‘idea artist,’ and his work is not easily categorized. His work involves multiple media, including, but in no way limited to, digital imaging, book publishing, installation, and new technology.” For more information, visit the Galerie Penumbra Web site, www.galeriepenumbra.com.
