Students present research at IU conference

KOKOMO, Ind.—Five Indiana University Kokomo students will make presentations at the IU Undergraduate Research Conference, on Friday, November 17, at IUPUI.

Students will make oral or poster presentations summarizing research, scholarship, and creative activities they have conducted in partnership with IU faculty members or other mentors as a component of their undergraduate education.

Campus participants and their presentation topics include

Carmen Davis, chemistry major from Elwood, “Photo-Electrochemical Studies on Copper Oxide/Chalcogenides Semiconductors.” Faculty mentor Professor of Chemistry Kasem K. Kasem, Ph.D.

Ed Faunce, honors humanities major from Kokomo, “The Theatre of Elizabeth Tudor’s Reign: Political Power to Women through Drama.” Faculty mentor Assistant Professor of English Terri Bourus, Ph.D.

Colin Kenny, honors criminal justice major from Peru, “Five-Step Synthesis of 2,6-Dimethyl-4-Phenyl-3-Cyclohexenecarboxylic Acid, Unusual Enantiomeric Pairs.” Faculty mentor Assistant Professor of Chemistry Songwen Xie, Ph.D.

Brandy Kizer, honors criminal justice major from Logansport, “Economic Development Strategies of Indiana’s Cities.” Faculty mentors Assistant Professor of Public Affairs Karl Besel, Ph.D., and Muthusami Kumaran, Ph.D. (College of Social Sciences, University of Hawaii).

John Stanifer, English major from Kokomo, “A Long-Lasting Influence: How Beowulf Impacts Modern Authors.” Faculty mentor Assistant Professor of English Terri Bourus, Ph.D.
