Economic forecast to be focus of discussion at Indiana University Kokomo

November 4, 2009

Kokomo, Indiana – Last November, the Indiana University Business Outlook Panel visited the IU Kokomo campus, predicting the region’s economic forecast as “uncertain.” When these business experts converge here again next week, forecasting for 2010 is just as challenging.

Experts from IU Kokomo and IU’s Kelley School of Business will share their thoughts on national, state and local economic trends at the annual Economic Outlook Breakfast, Wednesday, November 11, at 7:30 a.m. in the Kelley Student Center, Room 130.

The Business Outlook Panel will provide an economic forecast, identify key topics of concern to decision makers in Indiana, and discuss issues pertinent to the business and government sectors in 2010. The Panel is known for its ability to identify key economic trends, internationally as well as locally. Business leaders and members of the community are encouraged to attend.

Jason VanAlstine, assistant professor of economics at IU Kokomo, will discuss economic issues of Howard County and the surrounding area, focusing on area employment, wages, and population. John Wellington, interim dean of the School of Business, will moderate the discussion. Panel members include Robert Neal, associate professor of finance, Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in Indianapolis; Ellie Mafi-Kreft, clinical assistant professor of business economics and public policy; and Timothy Slaper, director of economic analysis, Indiana Business Research Center.

Admission is $12 and reservations must be made by calling the IU Kokomo School of Business at (765) 455-9275 or (765) 455-9465. Corporate sponsorships are available for the event. They are:

Gold at $500—Includes reserved seating for six with complimentary breakfast, (IRS deduction = $428).

Silver at $250—Includes reserved seating for four with complimentary breakfast (IRS deduction = $202).
