Wysong listed in Who’s Who in America

KOKOMO, Ind.—Indiana University Kokomo Professor of Sociology Earl Wysong, Ph.D., will be profiled in the 2004, 58th edition, of Who’s Who in America®, scheduled for publication in November. A native of Kokomo, Wysong has taught in the Social and Behavioral Sciences department of the local campus since 1991, becoming a full professor in 1998. He is a past recipient of research grants from the National Science Foundation and the IU Kokomo faculty fellowship program. Wysong obtained his B.S. in education from IU in 1968, an M.A. in sociology from Ball State University in 1971, and a doctorate in sociology from Purdue University in 1990. His Who’s Who citation notes that Wysong is the author of the book High Risk and High Stakes: Health Professionals, Politics, and Policy (1992) and co-author of The New Class Society (first published in 1999, and revised in second edition, 2003). Additionally, Wysong has contributed chapters to books and articles to professional journals in his field. His research on drug education and social class issues has been cited by the BBC, The New York Times, The New Republic, Rolling Stone, and several other national and regional publications. He currently serves as a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Contemporary Sociology. Wysong has served the Indiana Academy of Social Sciences as president (1999), executive vice president (1998), and as director of the sociology and anthropology section from 1993–96. He was program co-chair (1999–2000) for the Society for the Study of Social Problems. He has also been an active member in the American Federation of Teachers, the American Sociology Association, the North Central Sociology Association, and the Midwest Sociology Society. Dr. Wysong and his wife, Janet, reside in Kokomo and have two children, Kristi and Heather.
