KOKOMO, Ind.— Indiana University Kokomo’s Gamma Gamma chapter of Pi Lambda Theta has welcomed three students as new members. Elizabeth Hall of Michigantown, Ashley Keller of Peru and Susan Morgan of Kokomo were inducted on September 22.

Pi Lambda Theta is an international honor society and a professional association for men and women in education. Membership is based on high academic standing, interest in education, and promise of growth and service to the profession. Candidates were inducted by IU Kokomo alumni Elizabeth Douglass and Marsha Berry, who both serve on the Pi Lambda Theta International board of directors.

After initiation, the IU Kokomo Office of Alumni Relations and Gamma Gamma hosted a reception to recognize education students who received merit awards for 2004–2005. Those honored were

• Ashley Keller, recipient of a Gala Scholarship

• Rebecca Hinkle, Kokomo, recipient of the Kay Plew Memorial Student Teaching Scholarship

• Jill Lingle, Kokomo, recipient of the Turner Endowed Scholarship

• Margaret Rethlake, Greentown, recipient of the Pi Lambda Theta Patricia Wood Student Teaching Scholarship

Tammy Paul, a 2002 graduate of IU Kokomo, presented the evening’s keynote address, “From Gracie to Wal-Mart,” a description of her life’s journey and her goals as an educator. Paul teaches seventh grade social studies and language arts at Rochester Middle School and was named by the Rochester Wal-Mart as the local 2004 Teacher of the Year.
