Candidates present views in October 20 and 27 campus forums
October 8, 2004 | |||||
KOKOMO, Ind.—Political candidates for Howard County offices will speak to current issues during a public forum on Wednesday, October 20, at IU Kokomo. State and national candidates will have their say in a Wednesday, October 27, forum, also held on campus. Both forums will run from 7–9 p.m. in Room 130 of the Kelley Student Center. The public is welcome to attend.
IU Kokomo’s Political Science Department, History/Political Science Club, and American Democracy Project (ADP) committee will sponsor the forums. A national program involving more than 150 university campuses, ADP encourages undergraduates to explore civic activities vital to the life of a democracy, such as voting, volunteerism and advocacy of social justice. ADP co-chair and Assistant Professor of Political Science Todd Bradley, Ph.D., said the forums are an ideal setting for “intimate political engagement” with candidates on the November 2 ballot. “The forums provide “a ‘one-stop’ opportunity for the campus and community to meet many of those running for contested seats at the county, state and national level,” Bradley said. The forums are part of the “Building Character. Building Communities.” series being offered at IU Kokomo this fall under the ADP banner. The series schedule can be seen at www.iuk.edu/adp. American Democracy Project events/activities will take place on campus through spring 2006. (Candidate forum topics were listed incorrectly in an ADP brochure printed in September.) Weekday guests to campus who do not have an IU Kokomo parking pass are asked to park in the lower level of the parking garage, located on the south end of campus. Parking is free.
