Committee sets celebration plans for IU Kokomo's 60th year

KOKOMO, Ind.—In the academic year 2005–06, IU Kokomo will celebrate its 60th year of operation. Chancellor Ruth Person has invited several individuals to serve on a special committee that will plan activities to commemorate the campus’ six decades of accomplishments. Committee co-chairpersons are Director of Alumni Relations and Public Affairs Cathy Hightower; Senior Lecturer in Chemistry Marcia Gillette, Ph.D.; and Professor Emeritus of German Herbert Miller, Ph.D. “The 60th anniversary celebration activities will kick off in late August 2005 and will end in June 2006 with a visit here by the Indiana University Board of Trustees,” said Hightower. “We want to celebrate our academic traditions, the talents of our campus community, and the outstanding future of our students. The committee hopes to come up with a number of activities that will honor IU Kokomo’s place in north central Indiana history, as well as this region’s many contributions to the campus’ growth.” Kelly Thompson, executive director of the Howard County Historical Society, will serve on the anniversary committee, as will Bridget Brewster, director of communications and development for the Sisters of St. Joseph in Tipton. Brewster earned a Bachelor of General Studies degree through IU Kokomo in 1995.
