KOKOMO, Ind.—Enjoy trick-or-treat goodies, games, and the animal antics of the movie Madagascar during the 15th annual Halloween Open House, Friday, October 28, at Indiana University Kokomo.
From 6–8 p.m., student and campus organizations stationed throughout the Kelley Student Center will offer wrapped treats, face painting, ball and beanbag tosses, and other amusements for ages 10 and younger.
Madagascar will be shown in the center's Kresge Auditorium at 5:30 and 7:15 p.m. Madagascar follows the cartoon misadventures of four zoo animals who suddenly find themselves in the wild. The DreamWorks Animation® film is 86 minutes long and rated PG.
Open house admission is $1 per child ages 10 and under, which includes admission to the film on a first-come, first-served basis. Youngsters must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Young visitors can earn special prizes of glow-in-the-dark necklaces or flying discs, by visiting and obtaining stamps at the movie site and at every trick-or-treat booth. (Prizes are available as long as supplies last.)
The most fun element of the open house, said student coordinator Nick Smith of Kokomo, is always the happy parade of costumed youngsters and adults in attendance. “The kids love being around each other in costumes, and their parents appreciate being indoors in a safe environment,” he said.
A criminal justice major, Smith is an officer of the IU Kokomo Student Union Board (S.U.B.), the major sponsor of the open house. Working with him to oversee the event are other S.U.B. officers Adam McCombs, an elementary education major from Greentown, and Mike Glassburn, a communication arts major from Elwood.
