Student research on display in Alumni Hall

KOKOMO, Ind.—The campus community and public are invited to meet six student researchers, Monday, November 7, during the 2005 Undergraduate Research Summer Institute (URSI) Symposium at Indiana University Kokomo. The students will present posters and answer questions about their work from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on the upper level of Alumni Hall (outside the IU Kokomo Library and Art Gallery).
Faculty receive IU fellowship grants to mentor the student URSI projects. Each of the participants receive a $500 award.
Research teams for 2005 and their topics are
• Colin Kenny of Peru, studying in University Division, mentored by Assistant Professor of Public Affairs Karl Besel, Ph.D. “Factors That Influence Sustainability of Family Court Agencies in Ireland.”
• Ashley Gillem of Kokomo, biological and physical sciences major, mentored by Associate Professor of Biology Michael Finkler, Ph.D. “Lysozyme Activity in Snapping Turtle Eggs During Embryonic Development.”
• Stephenie Jones of Kokomo, chemistry major, mentored by Professor of Chemistry Kasem K. Kasem, Ph.D. “Photo-Electrochemical Studies of Surface-Modified Electrodes with Immobilized Redox Centers.”
• Edwin Faunce of Kokomo, communication arts major, mentored by Lecturer in Music Cindy Ison. “All That Glitters Might Be Glass.”
• Kevin Bogard of Kokomo, associate degree in nursing student, mentored by Associate Professor of Nursing Roberta Schweitzer, Ph.D. “Qualitative Analysis of Living with Heart Failure.”
• John Proffitt of Wabash, psychology major, mentored by Lecturer in English Karla Farmer Stouse. “A Journey to a Place Called Self.”
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Tim Sehr, Ph.D., oversees the summer research program at IU Kokomo.
