District 2, county candidates speak at IU Kokomo
October 13, 2006
KOKOMO, Ind.—Hear the major contenders for U.S. Congressional District 2, as well as those running in various Howard County political races, at a candidate forum Wednesday, October 25, at Indiana University Kokomo.
District 2 incumbent U.S. Representative Chris Chocola, a Republican, and his Democrat challenger Joe Donnelly will both participate in the 7–9 p.m. forum in Kelley Student Center, Room 130. The meeting is free and open to the public.
“The forum is an opportunity for the candidates to discuss their platforms and to answer some pre-screened audience questions,” said event coordinator Todd Bradley, Ph.D., an assistant professor of political science at IU Kokomo. “Several contested races in Howard County will be spotlighted, and the District 2 election, pitting Donnelly versus Chocola, is looking highly competitive. We hope to see a lot of voters at the forum.”
The History/Political Science Club, a student organization, is sponsoring the forum.
Voter registration drive exceeds goal
In other election news from IU Kokomo, the campus’ Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team exceeded its goal for registering voters in a recent campus drive. From September 18–October 6, SIFE members registered 171 voters, far above its goal of 5 percent of enrolled students, or 156 registrations.
SIFE was participating in a multi-state effort, sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. The association hopes to register 40,000 students during the 2006 voting cycle.
Persons without campus parking passes should follow the signs for special event parking for the candidate forum.
