  Entrepreneurship in the New Economy conference planned October 7

KOKOMO, Ind.—Learn about funding sources and state support for business ventures at the North Central Indiana Entrepreneurship in the New Economy conference on Wednesday, October 7, at Indiana University Kokomo. Designed to address new possibilities for entrepreneurship in the twenty-first century, the conference runs from 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. in the Kelley Student Center. Registration is $49 through September 27, and $59 after that date.

Mark Long, president and CEO of Indiana University’s Advanced Research and Technology Institute, will provide the keynote address. Long has 20 years of diversified experience in the biomedical/biotechnology industry, ranging from sales, marketing, and public relations, to regulatory affairs, property management, and general management.

A panel discussion of “Early Stage and Angel Investing” features Bruce Kidd, vice president of Indiana Venture Center and the founder of the Indiana Angel Network, which matches entrepreneurs and investors both locally and throughout the country. Kidd will be joined by Lee Lewellen of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership and David Mann of Springmill Ventures.

Teresa Deaton-Reese and Diane Poturalski will explain how to establish contracts with the State of Indiana. They are procurement specialists with the state’s departments of Administration and Transportation, respectively.

Indiana entrepreneurs will share their success stories and tips for avoiding business pitfalls during an afternoon panel discussion. Panel members include P.J. Marshall, director of business development for BTI Electronics; Tasha Phelps, CEO of Digital Sphere, Inc.; Bart Wagoner, practice manager for MindGent; and Keith Baldwin, director of business development at WIS Medical, LLC.

The day wraps up with a presentation on business incubation. President of the Kokomo/Howard County Development Corporation Greg Aaron will speak, along with Brian Kleber, director of Inventure, and Amy Beechy, small business development manager for the Area Five Agency.
