KOKOMO, Ind.—Articles written by Indiana University Kokomo Assistant Professor of Political Science Todd Bradley, Ph.D., have been accepted for publication and for presentation at a statewide conference.

Bradley's article “The Other: Precursory African Conceptions of Democracy” will appear in the September 2005 issue of International Studies Review, a peer-reviewed academic journal focused on trends and research in the field of international studies.

The Indiana Academy of Social Sciences (IASS) has invited Bradley to present a paper during the IASS' annual conference October 21 in Terre Haute. That paper, Bradley said, “examines the impact of secular and religious-based non-governmental organizations in Nigeria as conduits for democratic progression in that country, which has had a sustainable democracy since 1999.”

Priyanka Sarda of Kokomo will sit on the same conference panel as Bradley. Sarda will present a paper she wrote earlier this year when she was Bradley's student at IU Kokomo. “I encouraged Priya to submit her paper for the conference because I thought it had an excellent chance of getting accepted,” Bradley said. “Her paper investigates how hip-hop music has been a source of political and civic activism in Tanzania (a southeastern African country). She describes hip-hop musicians there agitating for political change in Tanzania and in neighboring Zambia and Mozambique.”

The conference will offer nine panels, covering the nine academic disciplines represented by IASS membership: business administration, economics, gender studies, geography and environmental studies, history, international studies, political science, psychology, and sociology.

According to its Web site (www.ius.edu/SocialSciences/iass), the Indiana Academy of Social Sciences brings together social science academicians from public and private educational institutions, with the aim of increasing the usefulness of the social sciences in Indiana.
