Seven enter education honor society

KOKOMO, Ind.—Gamma Gamma Chapter of Pi Lambda Theta inducted seven members September 12 at Indiana University Kokomo. Pi Lambda Theta is an international honor society and professional association for men and women in the field of education.
Heather Heinrich of Noblesville, the principal of Western Intermediate School, was inducted and served as guest speaker. Her address, “Be a Giraffe: Teaching and Leadership,” covered her journey as an educator and challenged her peers to seek out and accept leadership positions throughout their teaching careers.
The six current students who were inducted are (listed by hometown):
Arcadia: Margaret Davis, completing her teaching licensure in English/language arts.
Bunker Hill: Hether Darnell, undergraduate.
Kokomo: Richard Arcari, undergraduate; Jenna Easter, undergraduate; Pavithra Puliyanda, completing licensure in biology.
Walton: Todd Robertson, completing licensure in elementary education.
Chapter president and IU Kokomo education alumna Lora Reed, B.S. ’02, presided over the initiation ceremonies, assisted by faculty advisors Shirley Aamidor and Charlotte Miler.
Gamma Gamma members also honored education students who received the chapter’s merit scholarships for 2006–2007. They include

Galveston: Kimberly Maxwell, senior
Greentown: Emily Pier, junior
Kokomo: Elizabeth Clark, freshman; Jenna Easter, senior; Nicole Irwin, senior; Brittany Ravas, sophomore
Peru: Bridget Clemons, junior
Gamma Gamma Chapter, associated with Indiana University Kokomo Division of Education, selects candidates for membership based on high academic standing, interest in education, and promise of growth and service to the profession. Local chapter members include IU Kokomo faculty and staff, area school administrators and teachers, librarians, staff of social service agencies, and pre-service teachers.
Gamma Gamma has provided professional conferences and programs for more than 20 years to area students, teachers, and administrators. Individual members of Gamma Gamma mentor students and beginning teachers. They serve at the regional and international levels of Pi Lambda Theta in officer positions and on committees.
