Series lets teens explore art basics

KOKOMO, Ind.—One-day classes in the basics of drawing, painting, and other arts’ media will be offered in the Indiana University Kokomo Saturday Art Exploration Series, starting October 14. The series is open to high school students interested in exploring college level art instruction in a university setting.

Classes planned for fall 2006 include
October 14 Drawing
October 28 Clay Modeling
November 11 Mixed Media
November 25 Painting

Classes are scheduled 1–4 p.m. The cost per class is $25. Students who sign up for all four classes will receive a 10 percent discount.

IU Kokomo lecturers in fine arts Gregory Steel and Minda Douglas will instruct the classes. Steel said series participants can “develop critical and creative abilities as they experiment with new materials and develop new skills. The course structure is ideal for portfolio building and understanding advanced creative work.”
