Build a scarecrow for family fun
September 29, 2006
KOKOMO, Ind.—The IU Kokomo Staff Council will help you scare up some old-fashioned family fun Saturday, October 14, with their “Make Your Own Scarecrow” project. From 10 a.m.–4 p.m., council volunteers will offer the activity at Farlows Orchard, 6850 W. 250S, Russiaville (northwest of Western Schools, off S.R. 26).
For $8, participants will receive clothing, accessories, and hay stuffing to create a life-size scarecrow, plus guidance from council members. Depending on the age of children involved, putting together a scarecrow should take roughly 20-30 minutes, said council president Cathy Archer. “Your scarecrow can have a traditional country look or be formal, glamorous, monstrous—whatever you like. The whole family can participate in building a festive fall decoration for your yard or front porch.”
Proceeds will benefit the IU Kokomo Staff council’s causes of student scholarships and campus improvements. For more information, call 765-455-9552.

If building a scarecrow appeals to your crafting side, you’ll love the IU Kokomo Staff Council’s 15th annual Arts and Crafts Show, planned Saturday, November 4, in the campus’ Kelley Student Center. More than 80 vendors are expected, offering handmade decorative and gift items, clothing, jewelry, and more. Open 9 a.m.–3 p.m., the show offers door prizes, refreshments, and free parking.
