Explosion
on Campus or Downed Aircraft
In the event of an explosion or downed aircraft (crash) on
campus:
-
Immediately take cover under tables, desks and other objects, which
will give protection from falling glass or debris.
-
After the effect of the explosion and/or fire has subsided, notify
the IUPD at 363. Give your name and describe the location and nature
of the emergency. The IUPD will notify the Kokomo Fire Department
and the other necessary agencies.
-
If necessary, or when directed to do so, activate the fire alarm and
contact IUPD at 363.
-
When the fire alarm is sounded, or when told to leave by IUPD or
Physical Plant emergency staff, walk quickly to the nearest marked
exit and ask others to do the same.
-
Assist the disabled in exiting the building! Remember that elevators
are reserved for disabled persons. Do not use elevators in case of
fire.
-
Once outside, move to a clear area that is at least 500 feet away
from the affected building. Keep streets and walkways clear for
emergency vehicles and crews.
-
If requested, assist emergency crews as necessary.
-
A campus Emergency Command Post may be set up near the disaster
site. Keep clear of the command post unless you have official
business.
-
If an incident command center is established, a representative from
Physical Plant will report to the incident commander to help
facilitate with any questions from the emergency response teams.
-
Do not return to an evacuated building unless told to do so by a
university official.
