Criminal Justice

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree provides a broad general education as well as specialized training in the criminal justice system. Students in this major at Indiana University Kokomo also learn about public management, including policy analysis, budgeting, and public affairs, so they are prepared for management positions in the future. They participate in internship experiences in the criminal justice field, working in places such as the Kokomo Police Department, a local judge's office, a prosecutor's office, and a county probation department.

Criminal Justice Program’s Mission

 

The mission of the criminal justice program at Indiana University Kokomo is to prepare students for careers in a variety of law enforcement careers in both the public and private sectors. The Criminal justice program seek to promote academic excellence by encouraging qualified students to take advantage of opportunities to engage in independent study, research projects, and internships. The criminal justice program also helps students to prepare for careers and post-graduate degree studies.

The criminal justice program teaching mission is defined in terms of the role it plays in enabling current and future public safety practitioners to develop skills necessary to address challenges posed in criminal justice, homeland security, governance, and law enforcement. The criminal justice program is committed to orient its’ students to the public interest, humanistic safety, encourage personal contribution and to the client/citizens, not merely to technical outcomes. The criminal justice program is also dedicated to offering out-of-classroom learning opportunities by participating in discipline specific club, field trips, seminars, workshops, and conferences.

 

The Associate of Science in Criminal Justice (60 credit hours) can be earned through two years of course work as a full-time student or over an extended period as a part-time student. Students select courses based on their individual educational and career objectives. If you are interested in this program, you should consult with a criminal justice advisor to plan a degree program.

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree (120 credit hours) provides a broad general education as well as specialized training in the criminal justice system. This degree will also provide a foundation for graduate study in criminal justice, public affairs, or law.
